In Our Own Words

  • 3/27/07--As March comes to an end, all I can think is 60 days.  Today 5 different people have even said the phrase "60 days".  So I go from excitement to panic and back again.  I feel like a little kid that keeps asking "are we there yet?"  Then I start to panic about getting it all done.  Then I calm down and start to think about saying good-bye to friends.  It is a little manic how I am cycling through all of these emotions.  So why not throw it all aside?  Are you crazy!?!?! I can't wait to go on this trip.  Think about all the amazing places we are going to see.  Think about all of the friends and family we are going to get to visit.  It is going to be amazing!  Then the lists start in my head.  Right now I am thinking of the fact I need to write a letter to my landlord to tell him we are leaving.  Then I start thinking about giving notice at work.  Ah but that will wait until next month… For now I battle the lists and the feeling of little to no time.  So expect other blogs with that rushed feeling.  Then there will be the sad blogs about leaving our friends and life behind.  And then there will be the blogs that are filled with excitement.  So the manic blogs will continue and in a little more than 60 days the adventure will begin!  -With a giggle, Steph

  • 3/18/07-This week we meet with the Insurance guy to see what the costs are going to be for health insurance for Steph and I. It went a little like I thought it would. Names have been changed to protect the innocent. We'll call him Bob, We explained to Bob, we were going to leave our jobs and we would be traveling around the U.S. He pretty much pushed the product that he wanted, with out giving us much to compare it to.  He did bring up some good points about the short-term plans that I had researched on the Internet.  So we still have some work to do. Researching insurance is about as much fun as trying to figure out new tax forms. It stinks!!  On a better note we made some progress on the route and the dates that we would be near the people we want to see. For now the major thing we are trying to do is save more money.

  • 03/05/07- I know it has been a while since the first blurb. A lot has been going on since the first of the year. Steph and I have been slowly working on what we have to do on our list. Why does it seem that the time seems to speed up when you make a list?  Ok so we procrastinate a little! We have made some good progress. We have purchased a grill, lantern, camp chairs, cots, and blah blah blah. We have gotten mapping program for the computer, which is really cool. We have mapped out a rough idea of the route we want to take so we can let all those wonderful people know, we want to see along the way. With this program I can set the types of roads that we want to travel on, so we can stay on the back roads. Well now that I have cured your insomnia let me just say that I have been on this trip several hundred times by now.  Don't think that we haven't had some set backs but they have been minor. We spent the day in the car with the computer and gps to try navigating with the set up. Well let's just say that our two driving styles are not the same and also the way we like to get and give directions. We also now know that when there is a glitch or a slight problem that we get frustrated very fast. I know what you are thinking " they are going to kill each other inside of two weeks on the road". We are not that disillusioned, I know there are going to be bumps in the road and that is why we are working on it now to try to work out some of the bugs now so we don't have to kill each other for at least a month of constant contact!!  So any way for now there is still many things left to do and not so much time left for the doing. I will keep you posted. Jay out!
